Pristine school project was launched in 2005 as a stepping-stone to introduce and popularise the importance of waste management among school children, the future of the nation. Through these programmes students are trained to be future community leaders who can undertake the responsibility of effective waste management in their locales. Students are trained in schools to manage the waste generated in their own school premises. The WMA-WP provides technical support and supervision along with the provincial education departments. If you are interested in getting this service in your school, contact us on the email or telephone numbers given below.
Having identified the need to persuade all offices in the Western Province to follow sustainable waste management, the WMA-WP initiated this program in 2008. The program emphasises on three concepts; to minimise waste generation at source, to segregate waste material at source and to recycle and reuse segregated waste as a resource. Institutions that adopted this program have become zero waste institutions providing a role model to their clientele. Our objective is to make the entire office community in Sri Lanka follow our footsteps which we initiated in the Western Province and become a pristine institution. If you are interested in being a partner institution, contact us on the email or telephone numbers given below
This program was launched in 2007 after identifying the importance of managing waste generated in hospitals. The project was initiated at provincial level hospitals to encourage minimizing waste generation, segregation of waste at source and disposing of source segregated waste using eco-friendly methods. The main objective of this project is to segregate infectious waste from the rest and to dispose them in a more cost effective and eco-friendly manner. The WMA-WP plans to initiate this project among private hospitals too. If you are interested in being a partner hospital, contact us on the email or telephone numbers given below.
Based on the theme “Let’s start waste management from the village”, the WMA-WP has initiated this program to encourage small locales to take part in this program. For this, an identified street, or a GS division (local administrative area) is used with the voluntary participation of community leaders and senior citizens of the chosen area. In the chosen area, all the government offices and community organizations work in harmony following the 3R concept (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) to beautify and develop their target area. If you are interested in being a partner community organization, contact us on the email or telephone numbers given below
This program was initiated to develop the capacity of sanitary staff attached to provincial councils in the Western Province and it is conducted annually. Referring sanitary workers to annual health clinics, enhancing their job security, and conducting awareness programs to render their services with dignity of labour are the activities done under this program. To pass over responsible waste management to the next generation, this is another program conducted by the WMA-WP centred around pre-schools. The objective of this program is to inculcate a basic understanding and knowledge of waste management in the child who is about to start his school career. Subsequently the student will walk into the society as an adult who has a sense of love and respect to look after the environment around him. This program has started off in many pre-schools in the Western Province and there is positive feedback from parents. If you are interested in implementing this program in your pre-school, contact us on the email or telephone numbers given below
Following the flea market concept, the WMA has introduced this program for people to trade non-essential items. Through this program people can dispose any of their source segregated non-essential household items with a value in an eco-friendly way. All the provincial councils in the Western Province have embraced this and currently it is also a good platform to combat the spread of Dengue. If you are interested in having this flea market in your provincial council, town, or village, contact us on the email or telephone numbers given below.
